For those who never thought Disney would release a film in which Santa Claus is kidnapped and tortured, well, here it is! The full title is
Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, which should give you an idea of the tone of this stop-action animated musical/fantasy/horror/comedy. It is based on characters created by Burton, the former Disney animator best known as the director of
Pee-wee's Big Adventure,
Beetlejuice,
Edward Scissorhands, and the first two
Batman movies. His benignly scary-funny sensibility dominates the story of Halloweentown resident Jack Skellington (voice by Danny Elfman, who also wrote the songs), who stumbles on a bizarre and fascinating alternative universe called ... Christmastown! Directed by Henry Selick (who later made the delightful
James and the Giant Peach), this PG-rated picture has a reassuringly light touch. As Roger Ebert noted in his review, "some of the Halloween creatures might be a tad scary for smaller children, but this is the kind of movie older kids will eat up; it has the kind of offbeat, subversive energy that tells them wonderful things are likely to happen."
--Jim Emerson
Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King, tries to bring the magic of Christmas to Halloween Town and kidnaps Santa.

Clearly my wife and I are 25 years old and we are into good movies. This movies is one of the best Pixar movies and directed movies next to Cars. I suggest if you love halloween and talking skeletons this is the movie for you and your family.

The Nightmare before Christmas is my favorite movie of all time. I previously had the DVD and decided to upgrade to the Blu Ray and am glad I did. The movies colors are more vibrant and most importantly the backgrounds are a deep black rather than the slightly grey hint seen in the Blu Ray. The sound is more vivid and the whole experience is enhanced by switching to Blu Ray.

Part musical, part family animation. The tale is done well enough and children should enjoy it. Lacking in complexity for me but for its genre it was done well enough. I wasn't expecting ENGLISH PATIENT here. MY GRADE: B (fanboys/fangirls of Time Burton or Danny Elfman will give it higher).

The Blu-ray version is the only way to view this movie. However, I am not a big fan of the story or music. My wife loves every aspect of this movie but I find myself falling asleep every time we watch it. If you love the movie then you cannot pass up the Blu-ray copy and it is a great way to show off your LCD/Plasma TV.

This movie deserved a great blu-ray release and that it exactly what it got. The picture and sound quality are amazing and the movie is a memorable one. It is a Tim Burton classic so it has his eccentric style to it. If you're a fan of the movie, this is a MUST OWN version. Get it quick, rumor is its going back into the vault soon!
